Ubisoft has released some bad news for people who have been waiting for their next big IP, Watch Dogs. What was originally slated to be a November 19th release will now be coming to store shelves in the later part of spring 2014. Communications Manager for Ubisoft, Gary Steinman, posted up the blog earlier today giving us the bad, but understandable, news.
We know a lot of you are probably wondering: Why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.
While this does take a pretty hyped up game that would have been released side-by-side with current and next-gen systems out of the picture; Ubisoft obviously wants to play it safe with this new franchise. If they feel like the game needed more time to be polished and to fix any issues at all that might have plagued its launch, me and other gamers around the world can wait until 2014.
Alongside the delay for Watch Dogs, Ubisoft also announced that The Crew, which was never given a release date anyway, was pushed to a first quarter of 2014 release. The delay for The Crew isn’t as big as Watch Dogs since we didn’t expect a 2013 release, but it’s a delay nonetheless.
After everything we have seen for both games up to now, all I can say is take your time Ubisoft…take your time.
