Samsung was a first in the wearable market with the original Galaxy Gear and following up with its successors the Gear 2 and Gear Fit. Also, introducing the world to its Android Wear Gear Live smartwatch less than 3 months ago, now unveils the Samsung Gear S. The Gear S is the next generation in smart wearable devices as it is the first bridge the back between connectivity to a smartphone. It will feature 3G connectivity directly from the smartwatch to give you access to notifications and even make calls without the need of your smartphone.

“Samsung is leading this exciting and rapidly developing wearable category through progressive innovation,” said JK Shin, CEO and head of IT & mobile communication at Samsung Electronics “The Samsung Gear S redefines the idea of the smart wearable and the culture of mobile communication. It will let consumers live a truly connected life anywhere, anytime.”

The Samsung Gear S features a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display, which looks much sleeker than its flat screen on the previous watches. With this slightly larger display, text messages, emails and more will be far more readable than how they used to be. The curve element adds an extra bit of comfort as the basis Co tours to the owners wrist, something we really enjoyed on the Gear Fit. Along with 3G connectivity, the Gear S will feature standard Bluetooth and now the addition of WiFi with users being able to switch between 3G and Bluetooth pairing; the ability to access all of your important notifications and social media is even easier to reach. Lastly, of course, the Gear S will not only push notifications via 3G but users can also make and receive calls from their wrist or have calls forwarded from their smartphones. As from a hardware standpoint, it seems Samsung has gone away from adding a camera to this smartwatch, which is completely fine with me. The band is also reminiscent of the Gear 2’s slimmer band which is a plus.

The Samsung Gear S is also a perfect health and fitness companion with more enhanced multi-sensors, built-in GPS, and robust S Health features. In addition, applications such as Nike+ Running allow users to track their runs and stay motivated while on the move, without their smartphone.

Also announced with the Samsung Gear S is the new Samsung Gear Circle. Similar to the LG Tones line, the Gear Circle pairs with a smartphone to listen to music, make and receive calls and voice commands. The Gear Circle will also clasp around the neck when not in use and also contains a vibrate function to signal notifications and incoming calls.

Both the Samsung Gear S and the Gear Circle will be available in global markets in phases through Samsung’s retailchannels, e-commerce websites and via carriers beginning October.
